To protect and care for your furniture, we suggest the following:

• Avoid placing your furniture in direct sunlight, as sunlight causes fading.
• Avoid extreme changes in temperature by arranging furniture away from radiators, heat and air vents and air conditioning units.
• Avoid placing plastic or rubber materials (lamp bases, notebooks, placemats, etc) on your furniture, as certain plastics contain ingredients that may damage the finish.
• Periodically rotate accessories on furniture so they do not sit in the same spot all the time and cause your wood product to age unevenly.
• Use pads, cloth or felt to protect the furniture surface from plastic, rubber, hot dishes, beverages, bookends, flowerpots and vases.
• Clean up spills immediately. Use a blotting rather than a wiping action. Water left over a long period of time will cause white spots in the finish. Alcohol, perfume, after-shave and medications can cause severe finish damage.
• Use a protective pad (glass, leather, plastic, acrylic) when writing with a ballpoint pen on the furniture surface.
• Lift and place objects rather than dragging them across the furniture surface.

In 1925, four-year-old Clyde Hooker Jr. pulled the cord on the steam whistle that signaled the first workday at Hooker Furniture. In his 40 years leading the company, Clyde's dedication to the pursuit of making stylish, beautiful, well-made furniture propelled the company to become one of the nation's premier importers and manufacturers of furniture. In 2000, Clyde passed the torch of leadership to Paul B. Toms Jr, grandson of the company's founder, making Hooker a third-generation company and one of the few furniture firms still led by a member of the founding family.

Headquartered in Martinsville, Va. where we maintain a corporate office and several distribution facilities, Hooker Furniture employs around 800 people at our Virginia and North Carolina locations. Our high-fashion custom upholstery by Sam Moore Furniture is manufactured in Bedford, Va. Much of our upscale leather upholstery line is manufactured in Hickory, N.C. by Bradington-Young. Hooker also imports an extensive line of wood bedroom, living room accents, dining room, home office and home entertainment furniture and some leather furniture from factories around the world. These include factories in Asia, Mexico and Central America. The design and engineering of these imported furnishings is all carefully overseen by Hooker or Bradington-Young in compliance with our high-quality standards.
